There are times when a divorce case belongs in court and then there are times when it is in the best interests of both parties to go to mediation. Mediation can provide a viable, economical solution to certain problems and help to bring closure to various issues. It can also provide a faster resolution compared to a lengthy court divorce trial. Most of all, mediation tends to provide a more positive outcome for all involved as well as the privacy and confidentiality that many desire.

About Divorce Mediation
Mediation is a fair and efficient process that helps divorcing couples resolve their disputes and reach a favorable agreement for all involved. A neutral mediator assists both parties in reaching a voluntary, negotiated agreement to spousal support, child custody, child support, visitation, and property distribution. With mediation, a lengthy and costly trial can be avoided.
Mediation starts with both parties coming together to discuss the various issues that are involved in the divorce case. Both parties will need to provide the other with information regarding separate and jointly owned assets, including real estate, bank accounts, investment accounts, automobiles, debts, etc. In some instances, this information may be gathered before the initial meeting actually takes place. During the mediation process, the divorcing couple explore their settlement options. Oftentimes during this process, the divorcing couple will find that they can trade off certain assets so that each receives a balanced settlement. Once all of the issues have been resolved and it is determined how the assets are to be distributed, a preliminary settlement will be drawn up. At this time, each of the parties’ family law attorneys will review the settlement to ensure that his or her client’s rights are fully protected. Lastly, the settlement agreement is then forwarded on to the court for its approval.
